Overview: Vista, Office 2007 and Active Directory Print E-mail

Below is an overview of what ICT has done and will do during the School's migration to Microsoft Vista operating system, Office 2007 productivity suite and the centralized Active Directory system.

The planning for this has begun and will continue through the summer and fall semesters.

Winter 2007

ICT recruited many “beta” testers from various Maxwell departments to help us test and evaluate Microsoft Vista and Office 2007 in real-world situations.

Meet with and document experiences from Vista and Office 2007 beta testers.   Build training support materials and online reference to using during workshops.

Summer 2007

Detailed, task-specific workshops will begin to be offered starting in late May.

In mid-June all Syracuse University students will be moved into this new campus-wide Active Directory (AD) system and over this same weekend (tentatively June 16th and 17th) public computers in Maxwell and Eggers Halls will be rebuilt with Vista /Office 2007 and made to work in this new AD system.

Maxwell offices will start this migration to Vista, Office 2007 and the new AD system after June 18th.  Administrators please email This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it   time to schedule your office’s change over.

** Changes and upgrades to Maxwell computers in the weeks surrounding the start of the Fall semester (August 20th to September 21st) will be avoided. **

Fall 2007

ICT’s Training offerings will be evaluated, revised and continued as needed by Maxwell faculty and staff.  The department and faculty conversions to Vista, Office 2007 and the new AD system are expected to wrap up the first week of December 2007.
