ICT provides faculty, staff and students the opportunity to interface with people all over the world in real time via a video conference. With the proper planning, a video conference can be held in a number of locations throughout the Maxwell complex for groups of various sizes, even a single participant. Compared to a webcam and bundled software on a personal computer, the video and audio quality of a video conference are superior. Video conferencing allows the user to meet with colleagues and students in an environment that is superior to e-mail or other conventional forms of communications. A technician from ICT provides support during all video conferences allowing participants to focus on event content. Video conferencing is now being used increasingly within the academic arena. Faculty members and students are using this innovative telecommunication method to increase and expand their interaction with peers. Faculty members are using video conferencing as a means to collaborate with faculty and students at other institutions around the world. While video conferencing may not completely replace face-to-face meetings, it allows remote colleagues to connect and collaborate without the overhead of travel time and expenses.
Students may find video conferencing a useful alternative to
interviewing by phone or traveling to a job interview. The two-way
interaction between the prospective
employee and the employer during the video conference allows a personal touch and spontaneous interaction. In the past, a number of students have found this method successful when interviewing for positions in Washington DC, New York City and many other locations. |
