SwiftView software availability on Maxwell computers

The SwiftView software, used for viewing PCL files – a format commonly used for governmental documents – is available on all public Maxwell computers. While the software will work with our computers, there are some things that SwiftView users should be aware of:The Swift view client will work as a standalone viewer and as a plug-in for Firefox, but it will not work as a plug-in for IE due to security settings. We recommend right clicking on the file you would like to view using SwiftView and selecting “Save as” or “Save link as”. When prompted for a location to save the file, please save it to your H drive for safe keeping. Do not save to your C drive! Once saved, you can view the file using the SwitView standalone viewer. If you have any questions regarding the software, feel free to contact us at service@maxwell.syr.edu (mailto:service@maxwell.syr.edu).

Retention of Deleted Email

Since the implementation of Active Directory and the Exchange mail system at SU the practice has been to retain all deleted email indefinitely. This has resulted in over a terabyte of stored, deleted email, nearly 15% of all stored email. In order to make better use of system and storage resources, the Active Directory Governance Group (ADGG*) has decided that the retention practice will be changed so that deleted email will be removed from the system after 90 days.
